We do a complete retinal examination well beyond just the normal yearly examination and include testing that’s typically only done AFTER disease has been detected. We do a full dilated examination to include high resolution retinal imaging, optical coherence tomography of the retina and optic nerve and electroretinogram (think of an EKG, but for the system from your eyes to your brain) as part of this extensive examination to catch retinal disease from things like diabetes, macular degeneration, hypertension and a host of other conditions BEFORE you can physically see damage or potentially lose vision.
